I think this is the first ever pic of me with my kids!!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there!
With tomorrow being Mother’s Day, I’ve been thinking a lot about being a mom. We had a bit of a journey creating our family, so I never want to take it for granted. But as much as I try, during the day to day chaos of this life, it’s hard to focus on the positive.
Every day is a never-ending barrage of “mama!”, “I want” and the ever-popular “why?” I get it all. TIMES FIVE. That’s five times the “is it snack time?”, five times the tears and five times the sheer volume. I spend a lot of days counting down to bedtime.
Then May rolls around, and the wonderful teachers at preschool help my children shower me with amazing art projects celebrating mommy.
Then it hits me: I get FIVE TIMES the cards, FIVE TIMES the flowers, but more importantly, FIVE TIMES the love. Five times the hugs and kisses. Five times the cuddles. I listen to five times the giggles, and five times the best belly laughs ever.
I’m so happy to share Laurie Berkner’s newest music video, “Umbrella”. The reason I’m so excited about it is because my kids are in it!! Enjoy!!!
We had a fun and interesting trip to NYC to participate in this video! From greatly underestimating the commute into the city, to a screw-up with the parking garage, to navigating Chelsea Market with 5 kids, to being unprepared with the proper clothing colors…it was certainly a learning experience for these non-stage parents.
Overall, the kids had fun and we enjoyed our adventure! I think we’d do it again! Big thanks to Michelle Puskas and Take Flight Dance Center for including us in this fun, thanks to the crew at the YouTube Studios in NYC, and thanks to Laurie Berkner for letting us be a part of this and being so sweet to my children. We are all now fans for life!
Also, check out the rest of her videos on YouTube, and go buy her new album, Superhero!!
“Mommy, will you play cars with me?”
The dreaded words. It’s not that I don’t like playing with my son. It’s just that it’s hard!! There’s RULES. It’s taken me a number of years to figure it out. So I’m passing on the wisdom:
1. Don’t sit on the couch or a comfy chair. You must be on the hard floor, even if you lose feeling in parts of your body.
4. When your part is over, wait patiently for your next direction. Do not try to leave.
5. Make sure other participants follow these rules. Law breaking will not be tolerated by anyone.
If you follow these simple rules, you can have a successful play session, and you might even earn the right to choose your own car next time, or the voice you use to talk.
I don’t know how it happened, but yes, Easton is FIVE YEARS OLD!!! My sweet baby, whose infant photos pop up on my Facebook all the time, is five. When he turned four, he was still a little child. Granted he was a huge little child, but he still was my baby. Now, he’s five. It’s like a game-changer. Five is a grown-up boy. Well, in some ways. Thank goodness he still loves his mommy and loves to cuddle with me and is quite attached. Thank goodness for that!
He was eligible for kindergarten, but would have just made the cutoff by a matter of weeks. After discussing the issue with his preschool teachers and many other parents, we decided to give him another year of preschool. Academically I think he’s ready, but emotionally and maturity-wise, I think it will be good for him to grow a bit more. So he will now be attending the preschool at our high school that the hs students teach. It’s a wonderful place and I’m excited for them to start! Unfortunately it starts later while the students are learning to be teachers, but it will be well worth the wait.
So Easton…what can I say? He’s the leader of the pack around here. He teaches his brothers and sisters all the ways to break the rules and drive mommy insane. At other times, he is the most amazing big brother, and will patiently help them with a toy or read a magazine with them. It’s all about the highs and lows.
He visited the pediatrician for his five-year-old well visit, and is once again off the charts for height, at 3’11”. Although right now he measures 4 feet on our giant ruler!! He also weighs in pounds what his height is in inches (if you followed that!) so he’s 47″ and weighs 47lbs, which is around the 75th percentile. The doctor says he’s perfect, and I agree!
Easton still loves Star Wars, but Lego tops everything. At night we watch Lego videos, including Lego Pokémon, Lego Jurassic World and just LEGO. LEGO LEGO LEGO!! His second favorite obsession is dinosaurs, so we also watch a lot of Dino Dan on YouTube and NickJr. Easton likes to run around with Daddy and play “Wampa” and look for slugs outside, but he also loves to sit at the table and color or draw pictures. He’s turning into a good artist, and loves hanging up his pictures in the kitchen! His favorite thing to draw are “Werewalkers” (AT-AT Walkers for all you Star Wars fans). He’s also a big fan of rainbows and the color pink lately, which I’m ok with. You gotta be comfortable in your masculinity to love pink and rainbows lol!! Easton also loves to borrow my phone! He’s a silly goofball and he makes me laugh every day.
Easton had requested “decorations and balloons” for his birthday, so we hung up some Happy Birthday signs and blew up a bunch of balloons for the living room. They love balloons!
The next thing he wanted to do was go out to breakfast. So our whole gang went out to Perkin’s with Grammy & Pappy for a yummy meal. Then we had a chill morning playing and at naptime Easton and I went out to Toys R Us for birthday shopping!
Easton got his crown and balloon, and picked out five presents (plus one for good luck – I have a hard time saying no to him!) for his birthday, which included Lego Star Wars, Lego Ultra Agents, Lego Halloween stickers, Lego Star Wars watch, a Hot Wheels fire truck and Shopkins.
Then we hit the drive-through at McDonald’s for milkshakes. Of course, Easton only wanted a few sips, so I guess I HAD to finish his also!
Last, we went to Shoprite to pick out a birthday cake. E surprisingly chose a fruit tart! Later on, we had a dinner of chicken, noodles and carrots that E (also surprisingly) chose. Then Aunt Holly, Madison and Jackson came over for cake and presents.
And, of course we measured and marked him on the giant ruler!!
Daddy also brought home one more present later on…
I’d say our amazing boy had an amazing day!!
We had a fun day planned to celebrate the quads birthday! I started with blowing up a bunch of balloons for when they came down in the morning. Surprise #1!
Next up was a special breakfast made by Daddy – birthday pancakes!!!
After that, Aunt Holly stopped by to show them a frog that she had found! So we had some excitement there and then put him in a nice home in the backyard.
Next the kids opened their special birthday cards from Grandma and Grandpa.
After that we ventured out to Walmart to surprise the kids with bikes, but they didn’t have the four that we wanted, so the kids got new helmets and were none the wiser lol!
Then we went to ToysRUs to continue our birthday celebration. The kids got balloons, crowns, and each got to use their $3 coupon to pick out a toy. What do they pick out? “Shooter guns!” All four of them…and of course, the big boys aren’t to be left out, so Easton and Brian got nerf guns also.
Then at home it was an all-out war!! Good thing we bought the helmets!
After the war (which Brian claims he won), it was quiet time with the stickers that Grammy & Pappy bought them.
Next, it was exciting to measure them and mark their 3-year-old height on our giant ruler!
For dinner with was special “3” pizza!
Our marathon day concluded with some birthday ice cream from Polar Cub!
And that’s how you do it, folks!! Thank you for bearing with my picture-heavy post!!
I can’t believe we’ve survived another year. They are getting so big! The quads’ birthday was August 21st, but we went on a vacation (more about that later) and I’m trying to catch up!! So it’s been a busy year, but it gets better the older they get. Granted, we are doing potty training now with the little ones, so that’s it’s own challenge, but I wouldn’t go back in time. Not for a minute. The kids are all so different, with their own personalities and quirks, but they really are all great kids and we always get compliments on how well-behaved they are when we are out and about. That’s the best thing I could hear!!!
Brody is the class clown of the group. He’s funny, sweet, cuddly and a flirt! He’s inches tall (75th percentile) and weighs lbs (50th percentile). He’s meeting all of his developmental milestones. Brody loves to be like his big brother and will follow him around and copy him. He really is so much like him, too. I see so many similarities in looks and personality every day. Brody makes me laugh so much, and gives the best hugs!! Brody loves doing anything Easton is doing, but his favorite thing is dressing up like a superhero and fighting bad guys (like Daddy).
Hayden is our fashion plate, as you can tell. She loves dressing up! She is our second tallest, at inches (75th percentile) and weighs lbs (percentile). She is such a sweetie pie, but also has that girl attitude!! She loves cuddling with her Pappy, but most of all, she loves dancing!! Any time there’s music on you can bet her foot will start tapping or her shoulders start bouncing. She’s got some moves!! Hayden is an adventurous eater, and loves most veggies and even will eat wasabi peas and other spicy foods!
Emerson is the tallest, and weighs the most! She is inches tall (95th percentile) and weighs lb (75th percentile). Em is so smart. She remembers everything you say and will use it appropriately later on. She puts things together that we are so surprised to hear, like how did she know that?? It’s amazing. She’s definitely an indoor girl, and prefers not to be outside, but inside playing or at church with Grammy. She can be quite a handful, throwing tantrums when she doesn’t get her way!! Emerson often has her blankie or a substitute around, with her thumb in her mouth while watching tv or when she’s tired. She’s a silly girl who makes crazy faces and looks to get a laugh from everyone!
Deacon is our shortest, at inches tall (50th percentile), and weighs lbs (50th percentile). Perfectly average! He is so cute, but he can be a little devil!! He will completely ignore you when you tell him not to do something, or he will turn and give you a little smile while he continues to do it. Deacon is talking so much more now; school was really great for him! He has the best laugh and loves to play with his brothers and cuddle with his daddy. Deacon has surfer dude looks, and mommy refuses to cut off his hair!! Deacon loves tractors above all…driving them or watching videos of them!
Easton is my big guy, who’s just about to turn 5!! Although he’s eligible for kindergarten, we’ve opted to keep him in preschool for another year so he will be older in his grade. According to the charts, Easton is the average height of a 6 1/2 year old, and often gets mistaken for older than he is. But he is still my first baby! He is a silly goofball, hamming it up for the camera in his signature arms crossed, smirking pose. He also loves to take burst shot selfies on my camera. Easton is enjoying his siblings more and more, but loves to get them to do bad things. Apparently that’s funny. He’s still mommy’s boy, and I live for our cuddle times, which thankfully, still happen often. E loves drawing and coloring, building with Legos and playing with cars.
So that’s a wrap on the latest update. I will post more about their birthday celebration, and our vacation. Life is crazy!
